Have you ever noticed when you turn on the golf channel it's almost all men? Or that you can name twice, maybe three times as many male golfers as you can female? Even at my own school, the boys' team has enough participants for a junior varsity team while the girl’s team struggles to field a single varsity one. Golf has always been an extremely male-dominated sport, and leaving many girls unwilling to try it out or thinking that they can't.
But golf is such a great opportunity since it teaches several valuable lessons, like patience, focus, attention to detail, honesty, and resilience. That is why I founded GirlGolf: to provide a launchpad for underserved girls to play golf if they so desire.
GirlGolf has organized an event, completely free to participants, to introduce girls to the game of golf and provide opportunities for participants to continue playing. The event will be an introductory lesson, followed by a few holes of playing and then a dinner. At the dinner, we hope to give away opportunities to continue playing golf : things like golf bags, free golf lessons, and memberships to organizations like First Tee. We hope to give a golf bag to every girl in attendance, which is why we are hoping for your support in donating new or gently used golf bags (see more information on our golf club drive flyer). We hope that this event will help break down the initial cost barrier that exists to play golf.
